Which language is the oldest still spoken?

Pinning down the single oldest language is difficult, but Tamil, spoken by around 80 million people mainly in southern India and Sri Lanka, is widely regarded as one of the oldest languages still in continuous everyday use, with a literary tradition stretching back more than 2,000 years. Other ancient languages such as Sanskrit, Hebrew, Greek and Chinese also have very long recorded histories, though some, like Sanskrit and classical Hebrew, faded from daily use before being revived or preserved chiefly in religious and scholarly settings. All modern languages are technically equally old in the sense that they descend in unbroken chains from ancestral tongues.
