Which is the largest lizard in the world?

Komodo dragons live on a few Indonesian islands, including Komodo, Rinca and Flores. Large males can grow to about 3 metres long and typically weigh around 70 kg, with exceptional individuals heavier. They are ambush predators that eat deer, pigs, water buffalo and carrion, and can consume up to 80% of their body weight in one meal. A 2009 study found that they have venom glands in their lower jaw, which help cause blood loss and shock in prey. The species is listed as Endangered, with only a few thousand left in the wild.
