Usain Bolt set the 100-metre world record of 9.58 seconds at the World Championships in Berlin on 16 August 2009. At the same championships he ran the 200 metres in 19.19 seconds, another world record. During the 100-metre race he reached a peak speed of about 44.7 km/h. Standing 1.95 metres tall, Bolt covered 100 metres in about 41 strides, far fewer than most rivals. He won eight Olympic gold medals between 2008 and 2016.
