Where Is Yellowstone National Park?

Yellowstone National Park covers 8,983 km² across northwestern Wyoming and adjacent parts of Montana and Idaho. Established in 1872, it was the world first national park. Yellowstone sits atop a massive volcanic hotspot: a magma chamber lies about 8 km beneath the surface, powering the park 10,000+ geothermal features, including Old Faithful geyser, the Grand Prismatic Spring (the largest hot spring in the US at 110 m across), and over 300 geysers — more than half the world total. The park is also one of the last intact temperate ecosystems in the Northern Hemisphere, supporting grizzly bears, wolves, bison, and elk.
