Mount Augustus (known as Burringurrah to the Wadjari Aboriginal people) in Western Australia is the world's largest monolith, rising about 860 metres above the surrounding plain and covering approximately 4,795 hectares — roughly 2.5 times the size of the more famous Uluru (Ayers Rock). The sandstone formation is about 1,650 million years old. Despite its record status, Mount Augustus receives far fewer visitors than Uluru due to its remote location, about 850 km northeast of Perth.
