Where is the windiest place on Earth?

Commonwealth Bay in Antarctica is frequently described as the windiest place on Earth at sea level, with katabatic winds regularly exceeding 240 kilometres per hour and an annual average wind speed of around 80 kilometres per hour. These winds form as dense, cold air pours down the ice sheet under gravity and funnels toward the coast. Explorer Douglas Mawson, whose expedition wintered there from 1912, called the region the Home of the Blizzard. The highest surface wind gust ever directly measured, 408 kilometres per hour, was recorded on Barrow Island, Australia, during Cyclone Olivia in 1996.
