Where is Lake Victoria?

Lake Victoria lies on a high plateau in East Africa, with Tanzania holding about half of its area, Uganda around 45 per cent and Kenya the rest. Covering about 68,800 square kilometres, it is Africa’s largest lake, the world’s largest tropical lake and the second-largest freshwater lake by area after Lake Superior. It is surprisingly shallow for its size, with a maximum depth of about 80 metres. The lake is the main reservoir of the White Nile and supports millions of people through fishing. The introduction of the Nile perch in the 1950s caused the extinction of many of its native cichlid fish.
