Where is Lake Titicaca?

Lake Titicaca sits at about 3,812 metres above sea level on the Altiplano plateau, split between Peru to the west and Bolivia to the east. It covers roughly 8,300 square kilometres, making it the largest lake in South America by volume, and it is often described as the highest navigable lake in the world. The Uros people live on floating islands made of layered totora reeds, which they constantly rebuild. Inca legend held that the sun god and the first Inca rulers emerged from the lake, and Isla del Sol still has Inca ruins. Over 25 rivers feed the lake, but most of its water is lost through evaporation.
