Where is Kennedy Space Center?

NASA’s Kennedy Space Center lies on Merritt Island in Brevard County, Florida, an area nicknamed the Space Coast. Launching from here lets rockets fly east over the Atlantic Ocean, away from populated areas, and gain a speed boost from Earth’s rotation, which is stronger closer to the equator. The centre was named after President John F. Kennedy following his assassination in 1963. Its Launch Complex 39 sent Apollo 11 to the Moon in 1969 and hosted Space Shuttle launches. The Vehicle Assembly Building, about 160 metres tall, is one of the largest buildings in the world by volume.
