Where do wild tigers live?

Tigers once roamed from Turkey to eastern Russia and across Asia, but they have lost more than 90 percent of their historic range. Today, wild tigers live in countries including India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Russia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. India's 2022 tiger census estimated about 3,682 tigers, roughly 75 percent of the world's wild tigers. Siberian or Amur tigers live in the snowy forests of the Russian Far East, while Sumatran tigers survive only on Sumatra. Global wild tiger numbers were estimated at about 5,500 in 2023, up from a low of around 3,200 in 2010.
