Where do red pandas live?

Red pandas live in temperate forests with dense bamboo undergrowth, usually at altitudes of about 2,200 to 4,800 metres. Bamboo leaves make up most of their diet, though they also eat fruit, acorns, roots and eggs. Despite the name, they are not closely related to giant pandas; they belong to their own family, Ailuridae. The red panda is listed as Endangered, with the wild population estimated at fewer than 10,000 adults, threatened by habitat loss and poaching. It was described scientifically in 1825 by Frédéric Cuvier, more than 40 years before the giant panda.
