When was the Treaty of Versailles signed?

The fighting had stopped with the armistice of 11 November 1918, but the peace terms took months to negotiate at the Paris Peace Conference. The treaty was signed exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the event that sparked the war. Germany had to accept responsibility for the war under Article 231, give up territory and colonies, limit its army to 100,000 men and pay reparations. The treaty also created the League of Nations. It came into force on 10 January 1920.
