French inventor Louis Le Prince filmed Roundhay Garden Scene in Leeds, England, in October 1888, and it lasts only about two seconds. In the early 1890s Thomas Edison’s company developed the Kinetoscope, a peep-show machine that one person could watch at a time. On 28 December 1895 Auguste and Louis Lumière projected ten short films for a paying audience at the Grand Café in Paris, an event often called the birth of cinema. The first full-length feature film is usually considered to be The Story of the Kelly Gang, made in Australia in 1906. Sound arrived in 1927 with The Jazz Singer, the first feature with synchronised spoken dialogue.
