When did the first Moon rover land?

The Soviet Union achieved the first roving vehicle on the Moon with Lunokhod 1, a remote-controlled robotic rover that landed as part of the Luna 17 mission in November 1970. Resembling a bathtub on eight wheels, it was operated by controllers on Earth and travelled more than 10 kilometres across the lunar surface over about 10 months, sending back thousands of images and scientific data. The first crewed rover, the Lunar Roving Vehicle, was brought by NASA Apollo 15 astronauts in 1971, letting them drive across the Moon and explore far beyond their landing site. These rovers greatly expanded the range and scientific value of lunar exploration. Later Soviet and Chinese missions continued the tradition of robotic Moon rovers.
