When did the Apollo 13 mission happen?

Astronauts Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise were heading for the third Moon landing when an oxygen tank in the service module exploded about 56 hours into the flight. Swigert radioed Houston, we’ve had a problem here, soon repeated by Lovell. The landing was abandoned, and the crew used the lunar module Aquarius as a lifeboat, swinging around the Moon to head home. Engineers on the ground famously improvised a way to fit square carbon dioxide filters into round sockets using tape, plastic and cardboard. The capsule splashed down safely in the Pacific Ocean, and NASA called it a successful failure.
