When did humans first domesticate dogs from ancient wolf populations?

Dogs were the first animals to be domesticated by humans, likely from gray wolf populations. Genetic and archaeological evidence shows this process was underway at least 15,000 years ago, with some studies suggesting a deeper origin. The exact place and date remain debated, but the transition from wolves to dogs happened long before farming spread widely. By the end of the Ice Age, dogs were already accompanying human groups.
