Whose Photography Documented Nature?

Ansel Adams (1902-1984) became the most famous landscape photographer in history through his dramatic black-and-white images of Yosemite, the Sierra Nevada, and other American wilderness areas. His technical mastery — he co-developed the Zone System for precise exposure and development control — produced prints with extraordinary tonal range and detail. Beyond artistry, Adams was a passionate conservationist: his photographs were used to lobby for the creation of Kings Canyon National Park (1940), and he served on the Sierra Club board for 37 years. His work demonstrated that photography could be both fine art and a powerful tool for environmental advocacy.
