Which snake is the most venomous?

When ranked by the sheer toxicity of its venom, the inland taipan of Australia, also called the fierce snake, is the most venomous land snake in the world. A single bite delivers enough highly potent venom to kill around 100 adult humans, and its venom acts extremely quickly, attacking the nervous system and blood. Fortunately, the inland taipan is shy, reclusive, and lives in remote, sparsely populated areas, so bites on humans are very rare, and an effective antivenom exists. It is worth distinguishing venom toxicity from actual danger to people: snakes like the saw-scaled viper and certain cobras cause far more human deaths because they are common near where people live and are more aggressive. So the most venomous snake by chemistry is not the same as the deadliest snake by number of victims.
