Which is the largest moon in the solar system?

Ganymede, which orbits Jupiter, is the biggest moon in the solar system, with a diameter of roughly 5,268 km. That makes it larger than Mercury, which is about 4,879 km across, although Mercury is roughly twice as massive because it is made of denser rock and metal. Galileo Galilei discovered Ganymede in January 1610, along with Jupiter’s three other large moons. It is the only moon known to have its own magnetic field, and scientists believe it hides a salty ocean beneath its icy crust. The European Space Agency’s JUICE spacecraft, launched in April 2023, is due to reach Jupiter in 2031 and later go into orbit around Ganymede.
