Which is the largest insect?

There is no single largest insect because the records depend on what you measure. For weight, the giant weta of New Zealand is a champion; one female was recorded at about 71 grams, heavier than a house sparrow, and Goliath beetle larvae can be heavier still. For length, the record goes to a stick insect found in southern China in 2016, which measured about 64 centimetres with its legs stretched out. For wingspan, the white witch moth of Central and South America can reach close to 30 centimetres. Around 300 million years ago, dragonfly-like griffinflies such as Meganeura had wingspans of about 70 centimetres.
