Sweden’s first victory came in 1974 with ABBA’s Waterloo, which launched the band to global fame. Sweden then won in 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023 to draw level with Ireland. Its singer Loreen won in 2012 with Euphoria and again in 2023 with Tattoo, becoming the first woman to win the contest twice. The contest began in 1956 in Lugano, Switzerland, and is one of the longest-running television music competitions in the world.
