Where is the tallest building in the world?

The Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is the tallest building and tallest free-standing structure in the world at 828 metres, with 163 usable floors. Completed in 2010, it was designed by the architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill using a Y-shaped buttressed core that resists the enormous wind forces at such heights. It held the record comfortably until the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia, designed to exceed 1,000 metres, resumed construction. The Burj Khalifa is so tall that people on the ground floor can watch the sunset, then take the elevator up and watch it set a second time from the observation deck.
