Where is Newgrange?

Newgrange was built around 3200 BCE by Stone Age farmers, which makes it older than Stonehenge and the Great Pyramid of Giza. It is a huge circular mound about 85 metres across, ringed by large kerbstones, many decorated with spiral carvings. A long stone passage leads to a cross-shaped inner chamber. Above the entrance is a 'roof-box' opening, positioned so that around the winter solstice the rising Sun shines along the passage and lights up the chamber for about 17 minutes. Newgrange is part of the Brú na Bóinne UNESCO World Heritage Site, listed in 1993.
