Denali rises in south-central Alaska and is the highest mountain in North America at 6,190 meters (20,310 feet) above sea level. The peak sits within Denali National Park and Preserve, about 240 kilometers (150 miles) north of Anchorage. The mountain was officially renamed Denali in 2015, restoring its Koyukon Athabascan name, which means “the high one.” It is famous for extreme weather and one of the largest vertical rises from base to summit of any mountain on Earth.
