Where is Borobudur?

Borobudur is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple built during the Sailendra dynasty. It is the world's largest Buddhist temple, rising in nine stacked platforms topped by a large central dome. The monument is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and originally held 504 Buddha statues, with 72 of them seated inside bell-shaped perforated stupas on the upper terraces. It was abandoned for centuries and hidden under volcanic ash and jungle before being brought to wider attention in 1814. A major restoration led by Indonesia and UNESCO took place from 1975 to 1982, and it was listed as a World Heritage Site in 1991.
