Where do lemurs live?

Lemurs are primates that evolved in isolation after their ancestors reached Madagascar tens of millions of years ago, probably by rafting on floating vegetation. Today there are more than 100 species, from the tiny Madame Berthe's mouse lemur, weighing about 30 grams, to the indri, which can weigh around 9 kilograms. They live in habitats ranging from rainforests to dry spiny forests. Because of deforestation and hunting, lemurs are among the most threatened groups of mammals on Earth. Around 95 percent of lemur species are considered threatened with extinction by the IUCN.
