The collection includes more than 100 objects and over 23,000 gemstones, including crowns, sceptres, orbs and swords used in coronations. St Edward's Crown, used at the moment of crowning, was made in 1661 for Charles II after most earlier regalia were melted down following the English Civil War. The Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross holds Cullinan I, one of the largest cut diamonds in the world at about 530 carats. The jewels have been kept at the Tower since the 14th century. In 1671 Colonel Thomas Blood attempted to steal them but was caught.
