When was the first annual World Migratory Bird Day celebrated?

World Migratory Bird Day began in 2006 as an international awareness campaign for migratory birds and the habitats they depend on. It was created to highlight threats such as habitat loss, collisions, pollution, and climate change. The event is now observed globally by conservation groups, schools, and wildlife agencies. Its dates were later aligned with major migration seasons in different regions.
