Angel Falls in Venezuela became widely known outside the region in 1933 after American aviator Jimmie Angel flew over the area and reported the waterfall. He later landed a plane on top of the nearby plateau, which helped make the falls famous worldwide. The waterfall is now recognized as the world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall, with a drop of 979 metres. Its Indigenous name is Kerepakupai Merú.
