When did the Vietnam War end?

The Vietnam War was a long and costly conflict that pitted the communist government of North Vietnam and its allies against South Vietnam and the United States. American combat involvement escalated in the 1960s but grew deeply unpopular, and US forces withdrew after the Paris Peace Accords in 1973. Fighting continued between North and South, and the war finally ended on 30 April 1975, when North Vietnamese tanks rolled into the southern capital Saigon, an event known as the fall of Saigon. The city was later renamed Ho Chi Minh City, and Vietnam was reunified under communist rule the following year. The war caused enormous casualties, with millions of Vietnamese and tens of thousands of Americans killed, and it left lasting scars on both nations.
