The Full Story
The International Space Station, or ISS, is a modular space station in low Earth orbit built and operated by a partnership among NASA, Roscosmos, ESA, JAXA and CSA. Its first module, Zarya, launched in 1998, and the station became continuously inhabited in November 2000. The ISS orbits Earth about every 90 minutes at an altitude of roughly 400 kilometers. It is used to study biology, physics, medicine and life-support systems in microgravity.
