Haka are performed by Māori for many occasions: to welcome guests, celebrate achievements, honour the dead at funerals and mark weddings. The most famous, 'Ka Mate', was composed around 1820 by the Māori chief Te Rauparaha to celebrate his escape from enemies. New Zealand's national rugby team, the All Blacks, has performed a haka before international matches since its 1905 tour of Britain. In 2005, the team introduced a second haka, 'Kapa o Pango', written specifically for them. The Haka Ka Mate Attribution Act 2014 formally recognises the Ngāti Toa tribe as the guardians of Ka Mate.
